Princess of Last Resort - Ch. 1: The First Strike

During the 1001st Summer Sun Celebration, Princesses Celestia and Luna vanished, temporarily leaving Princess Twilight Sparkle as Equestria's sole remaining princess. Five years later, inspired by this event, and having ascended to the highest position in the nation as Sovereign Ruler of Equestria, Twilight wrote the Royal Succession Act, enshrining in law the procedure for selecting a new ruler, in the event she, along with any or all of her viceroys, were incapacitated or killed. Shortly after, the Royal Guard prepared a detailed procedure for executing this law, called Contingency One. Part of the procedure required, during any event in which the entirety of Equestria's elite is in attendance, for one government minister in the line of succession to be excused, and taken to an undisclosed location. In the event of a catastrophic attack on the nation's leadership, this pony ascends to the rank of princess and becomes the new Sovereign Ruler of Equestria. They are known as the

Twilights Endgame: Nothing But Dust and Blood

It was a calm day on the streets of Ponyville, a rare sight in the growing little city. Twilight looked up at the sky above, seeing only pale blue, with only the occasional white fluffiness shuffled about by various pegasi. The streets below were populated by ponies wandering to and fro, just going about their daily routine. "Morning, Twilight," came a voice. She turned to see a pony wave to her. "Good morning," she responded, passing by and continuing to trot down the road, head held high. She was on her way to visit Carousel Boutique. Her best friend, Rarity, needed some assistance with her latest collection; and like any good friend, she had offered to help. Her trot picked up into a canter, as she continued down the street. Nothing could go wrong, this day, she thought. ------------------------------------------------ Spike laid down in his bed, relaxing. It was almost midday. He hadn't started on any of his daily chores, but he didn't feel he needed to. It was one of those

My Little Destiny: Chapter Fourteen - Panacea

Hydrogen, helium, oxygen, and other trace elements flowed over the hull of the Destiny, as it cut through the bright blue gasses surrounding it. Twilight sat on a bench in the middle of the observation deck, marvelling at the view before her. It was only yesterday Twilight managed to identify their location: The Blue Phoenix Nebula. Easily visible from Equestria, and 700 light years away. She had travelled 700 light years in an instant. And she didn't fully understand how. None of it made complete sense. Part of her thought this might be some sort of strange dream. But after three days, it finally sunk in. She was very far away from home, but thanks to the Stargate, so very, very close. It was almost paradoxical. "Twilight?" She turned to look at the voice beside her. "Finally separate yourself from the console?" Eli asked. The young mare giggled. He wasn't really there, she knew that. As Brody explained it, Eli's body was just a hallucination the ship implanted in her mind.

With Rainbow Hair: Chapter One - The Fight

Twilight Sparkle ran through the stone hallways under the Marjave Citadel.  Levitating in front of her, in her magical grip, was a large obsidian stone in the shape of a cylinder.  It was jet black and almost featureless, save for the gold accents at either end, each featuring a single amethyst gemstone set within. The unicorn emerged in a small room, dominated by a spiral staircase spinning upward.  She quickly ran up the stairs.  At her rapid pace, she arrived at the top in no time at all, and leaped through the broken frame of the formerly hidden doorway. The shining blue hallways glowed as Twilight galloped through.  She passed painting

Sibling Rivalry: Chapter One - Night

There comes a time in every young dragon's life, when thoughts turn to love.  Within dragon society this time is full of celebration and joy, as they find their first mate and, in some cases, settle down for a lifetime of happiness.  Conflict in this department, while common, is quickly quashed among them, as one of the core tenants of dragon society is to save your strength for the real fights.  Time and energy is too precious to waste on lover's quarrels.  Rules clearly set out how to resolve romantic disputes.  Unfortunately, for one dragon, these rules are an unknown, a complete mystery.  Which is a real pity for him, because this week, i

A Waking Dragon: Chapter One - The Pink Stone

The morning sun rose, shining upon Ponyville.  Beams of light came through the windows of the living quarters at Ponyville Library.  Slowly moving across the floor until they landed on a small basket in the middle of the room, containing a small purple dragon named Spike. The light woke him, and as he stirred in his bed, opening his eyes to the world, a question ran through his head, on one wall, he saw the answer indicated on a wall calendar.  It was Saturday, and the day before, Friday, was crossed out.  But he could still read what was well-marked in Friday's square: "Rarity's Funeral" He stood, ya

Magical Mystery Cure Reviews

The following is compiled from two different pieces I wrote on the season three finale of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. They were written two weeks apart. I'm posting this because I appear to have a unique view on the lead up to the episode, and the episode itself, and I hope someone can either prove me wrong, or at least acknowledge that I'm right. With all that said, here we go: Royal Pains Posted on Sat, Feb 2, 2013 I am a skeptic in every sense of the word. Not just in the traditional sense, scientific skepticism, but in the sense of simply not trusting people at their word, no matter what the context. Of course that kind of worldv
